Maui Wowee 2010!
Hi buddies!! So I finally gave in and joined Facebook!! I’m still getting the hang of it but I now see why so many people have abandoned blogging for the oh-so-easy-Facebook-world. I still love documenting my memories on my blog too though. Thank you all for your comments about Evan’s party! I couldn’t have done it without my loving family & friends and our awesome vendors.
This month has been rough. Andy had to travel for work every single week and my mom has been in Korea so I’ve been on my own most of the time. At the end of the day I usually have no energy to do anything but read e-mails/Facebook updates on my phone and pass out. I just wanted to thank those of you who helped make the time a bit easier with your sweet comments/e-mails/texts/phone calls. Even the smallest of “oh, I know how you feel” or “hang in there” messages really lifted my spirits. As I type this I’m still alone but thankfully my mom will be back Sunday! I hope you’ve all been having a fabulous April. Happy Spring!
Now get ready for some photo overload!

Maui Wowee 2010
Seeing that we were just in Maui (9 months ago) we didn’t think we’d be going back so soon. Andy’s childhood friend was getting married though so of course we wanted to be there.
The first morning we were there we woke up to an island wide alarm warning us of a tsunami! The whole island was basically at a standstill as they prepared for the worst.
Luckily the “tsunami” didn’t amount to much…just some really strong winds. It was so windy Evan got knocked down by the wind!
I even felt like I would be blown away at times, hehe.
Favorite Moments
* Hanging out at Baby Beach where the water was super clear and shallow.
* We stayed at the Four Seasons last year and loved it but wanted to try a different part of the island so we stayed at the Ritz. The service was so awesome!! One of the staff members even brought us her own baby’s toys to play with while we were there.
We loved our room because it was actually two separate rooms (including a kitchen/dining area) which was really helpful so Evan had his own place to sleep. It was nice just having a lot of space to hang out in. Plus, the patio opened out onto a huge grassy field with a hammock!
* Getting to sleep in every morning while Andy & Evan went on walks.
Evan woke up super early because we were on LA time so they had the whole property to themselves.
* Getting to go on date nights thanks to our wonderful nanny. Evan loved her and was so happy hanging out with her. She was from an agency that was highly recommended by the Ritz. Please let me know if you ever need a nanny referral in Maui! I don’t have any photos of them so here are random Evan photos instead, hehe.
* I love how Evan is so friendly sometimes! Now that he’s walking he goes up to random people and it seems like he’s trying to make conversation with them.
* Kai & Alison’s wedding was so filled with love and beauty. I’m so happy we got to be a part of it.
* Going on a private whale watching cruise and seeing whales super close up!
* Spending lazy afternoons at the pool.
* Evan’s first shave ice experience.
* Watching Evan bond with his daddy.
* Shopping with my personal shopper.
* Spending quality time with my two loves.
* Here are a few more of my favorite photos…
Traveling With a Toddler
The last time we went to Maui Evan was only a few months old so it was a very different trip. This time he was walking and so much more curious about everything! The flight there was so easy we started even planning international trips for the three of us (fools!), hehe. Evan napped for 2 hours and was in a great mood the whole time.
However…on the way back he skipped a nap so he was restless most of the flight. Goldie Hawn was sitting right in front of us and I felt so bad Evan was doing a lot of complaining, hehe. Thankfully she was nice!
Vacations are great but traveling with a toddler is hard work at times! We were happy to be back home.
Here are a few random items that were really helpful on our trip:
* Disposable Stick-on Placemats – We used these everywhere~! There are so many times Evan’s food falls on the table and he just picks it up and eats it again. I feel better with the placemat there, hehe. He’s always reaching under the table too (gum alert!) so I make sure to stick this on partially under the table too.
* Gate Check Bag – It kept our stroller clean and free from any nicks and scratches!* Organic Milk in a Box – We haven’t found whole milk in a box yet so these Earth’s Best ones are the next best thing. They don’t have to be refrigerated so it’s easy to take along anywhere. You can find them at Target in the baby food aisle.
* Hand Sanitizer – The Cleanwell sanitizers are by far the best ones I’ve ever used. I have one of these with me at all times. I love how they’re all-natural and alcohol-free so you don’t have to feel yucky about rubbing the alcohol ones in your hands and then feeding/touching your baby. I don’t like the Purell-types because Purell’s active ingredient is 65% ethyl alcohol! Cleanwells are great too because they never leak~ unlike other ones I’ve used in the past (Purell, Burt’s Bees).
Any other must-have items or tips for traveling with a baby or toddler? I know there are so many moms out there who are super travelers. Please share your wealth of knowledge!

I saw these photos on fb and didn’t get a chance to comment on them. Your trip looked fabulous! I love that side by side of Evan from a year ago. He’s such a sweetheart and getting more handsome all the time!
omg, i am so glad you are on facebook! i loved all the pictures and so glad you got to sleep in while daddy and evan went on their walks!
i am so jealou sthat you got to go to maui again! lucky! you guys are such a great-looking family! and thanks for sharing the items you said were helpful! we probably will head to china soon so i will need to think ab0out getting those placemats and check in bag.

i can’t think of your last name so find me on fb please! angela im
awww, Jenny! now i miss you and Evan even more!!! Can’t wait to see you in the coming weeks…i’m literally counting down the days! i have been so busy running errands for Eleni’s dohl, that i hardly have time to catch my own breath. I love all the photos, absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait until i go vacation to hawaii! If i go to Maui, i will come back ask you for that nanny reference of yours…thanks for sharing all your tips, it is always helpful. Eleni was much easier to travel with when she was younger, but like you mentioned she is so aware of everything and does not want to be sitting for too long! she likes to roam around the aisle and get attention from strangers, even if they don’t like kids! haha Anyways, I’m sure you already do this, but i time our flight both ways during her nap and usually fly out early in the AM where she is not too hyper or energized. This makes our flight experience much easier.
maui looks like so much fun and peaceful for traveling with a baby! and your pics always look so professional!! i love the disposable placemats, i didnt know such a thing even existed, but super smart! ^^
beautiful family. your pictures are always so vibrant and candid!
wow, your photos are amazing… not only bc the location was so beautiful but your photog skills! i love that first pic of E, along with all the beach pictures of him. what a huge difference bw your first trip to maui with E and this one. he’s grown so much! you have a beautiful family!!!
Seriously, Maui looked amazing, and you did such an awesome job at capturing such beautiful moments. We use the same disposable placemats (btw I think the winnie the poo ones are the cheapest on amazon right now =P) and also I have Cleanwell sanitizer in like every single bag! I love how it sprays hehe. I have to totally agree, both are total lifesavers. Chloe drank soy milk too, but I never found it in disposable bottles only the chocolate flavor! This is good to know, I’m going to have to be on the lookout! I loved looking at all of these pics again~~so gorgeous *sigh* I gotta ask you a few questions later! Can’t wait to see you chingoo!!
Yay you updated! wow I LOVE IT ALL, your making me excited to take a trip with my munchkin. It seems like you handled it with ease! Evan looks so cute, I love the daddy and me photo’s so cute.
FB is addicting, I am on it even on my phone so so bad. lol
Looks like you guys had an awesome trip
Looks like you had a blast in Maui! When we flew with a non-mobile william , it was a breeze. Now a 4 hour car ride has been difficult. I don’t know if we could survive long flights. i am still trying to convince the husband that it will be ok. not sure if i believe it though.
ryc: I hope we can have either a ca or ny play date sometime.
too cute! what a difference a year makes since they grow so quick! organic milk is probably safer than whole milk anyway. you guys look like you had a blast and these shots are great for the family album!! haha. everyone joins facebook sooner or later! i’m glad you joined us!
Wowee indeed! The pictures are so gorgeous! Looks like you had a great time. That’s awesome Evan is so friendly! Good for him!
oh how I miss Maui
You go to Hawaii every year?. I remember your post last year xP he’s so handsome in that outfit haha! too cute <3
awww, he is too cute in his hawaii outfit!
ooh perfect timing for your post about traveling~ we’re heading back to cali from hawaii w/ Warren & im SO nervous how hes gonna do! thanks for posting the useful products those r great ideas! any other tips would be helpful esp for a 3-4 months old~ your posts are always so resourceful & fun~ btw we watched that tsunami reporter all day over here haha i was so freaked out! your photos look amazing as always =)
Love all the pretty pictures. And the romantic, flowy gray dress you wore for the wedding! Can I ask where you bought it? A girl can never have too many pretty dresses.
I can’t believe that Evan is starting to look like a little boy and not a baby anymore. It’s incredible how fast they grow.
jenny!! hihi! i loooooove all you photos! the blowing away ones are awesome! E is just so handsome in his hawaiian outfit and oh what a difference just a year makes!! i cannot wait to meet this lil guy and you too! my may trip might be postponed till july… swamped with work. thanks for sharing your vacay pics with us. just makes me want to bite those cheeks even more!! i love your gray dress~!
as usual, i love your pics!! esp. the one where E is at the podium
kekeke. cracked me up!!!
i remember traveling with jt was ok at 4 months and 11 months but at 18 months, it was the MOST difficult!!!! we didn’t introduce tv until he turned 2 but he was totally mobile and curious so he did the squirming and back arch on us the whole flight! after 2, we brought our friend, DVD, and it totally saved us! so now i know with c that i will try to avoid taking her on a plane at 18 months!!
great photos! thanks for the useful traveling tips!
wow, evan is so big now! he’s such an adorable happy kid i love it! i’ve never been to hawaii so i live vicariously through you when you post up pictures of hawaii jenny hehe. love love love the photo of you look at evan while he plays with the laptop
loving your maui photos!!!! you take such amazing photos, you should consider going pro like your SIL suggested! looks like you guys had the most amazing time, really makes me want to head back to hawaii asap! i <3 your photos though, photo lusting!! lol
btw – not a mommy yet, but when one of my girlfriends pulled out the disposable stick on mats, i was super amazed. people think of everything out there. haha.
and goldie hawn?! super sweet!
These are fantastic photos of Maui. Great shots of your family and Evan as well. I think it’s so great that you were able to travel with Evan when he’s so young. You are a beautiful Mom!
Jenny, your photography skills amaze me! Looks like you had a blast in Maui!
i know~ i LOVE LOVE LOVE those sticky mats… I always carry a bunch in my diaper bag – SO helpful, esp since Lauren loves to suck on tables. So gross. =X Anyways, ur trip looked like so much fun! You really got some awesome pics from your trip. It almost makes me want to take Lauren on our trip too… but I think we’ll probably leave her in LA. Wow, you got to meet goldie hawn? that’s so cool! Did you already go to missouri as well? Hope you’re holding up well with all the travelling. Yeah, I totally know how hard it is without a mom and husband gone with work all the time… I’m glad that you’re almost done with the tough month!! You’re a super-mom, though… so I have no doubts that you were awesome!
Looks like you had a FABULOUS time in MAUI! Your little Evan is such a heart-breaker… he’s gorgeous! and I Love your pictures… you do some awesome work! Keep up the great work momma – I know you can do it! I still am in awwww of your baby’s bday pix and your attentions to detail… you’re so crafty! I hope you’re not too lonely… it’s almost over.
Wow those are some great pictures of your vacation… we were in Maui too last year, but opted to leave Jonah behind… now that I saw your pics, I wish we had brought Jonah. My sister got married at the Ritz – don’t you just love their rooms? I am loving how grown up E looks!
I LOVE all these pictures Jenny! The highlights of your trip were captured soo nicely and it looks like you guys had soo much fun! If only, one day, we could take a HUGE FAMILY trip to Maui, now that would be sooo FUN!!!!!! Looking at these pictures makes me miss you guy SOO much!!
Your pictures are so amazing! Looks like you all had a wonderful time in Maui! Your family photos are all so adorable
.
Yes.. stopped blogging in my Xanga too, since facebook sucks up most of my time. hehe
If you want to find me on facebook, you can search using my email address: madluv4tai@yahoo.com
Looks like an awesome trip, and your photos are amazing as usual. They really make me want to go, too. Facebook is the best social networking site from my point of view. Goldie Hawn does seem like a nice lady.
P.S. I really like how he’s wearing a similar outfit for the now and then shots!
Oh yeah, and the wind pictures are hilarious and cute! There was a really windy day once while I was in college, and I had to walk to class with my body at a diagonal from the ground.
Seriously, I felt like I was flipping through a korean magazines with beautiful people and child……Girl, you should go into advertisement cause you got me dreaming about staying at the Ritz, eating Shaved ice cream…..and traveling with kids….Your pics are wonderful and through it I don’t see one stress you went through with him…What a great little man he is……….Girl, he is another handsome baby whos’ grown right under my eyes…weren’t just posting your pregnant belly shots??……Shoot, and now he’s grown to this very well dressed soon to be toddler….he’s totally cruising by with the growth spurts, cause i can’t remember his baby stages….Awww, sounds like he’s gonna be a very good and people person…….sigh~…awesome pics and who ever is the photographer…Girl, i’m so jealous….BTW, what kind of camera are you taking……….??…your pics are amazing….Man, Evan is one lucky boy already traveled to Hawaii twice and is that first class he’s sitting in?…lol……..
Super Sweet! I love all of Evan’s outfits and hats. You always think of everything. You have a beautiful family! The last photo of you holding Evan is priceless. He totally looks like you when he’s smiling. Having a boy can be so rough but you make it look so easy, especially when it comes to traveling. Hope Andy won’t have to take as many business trips this summer so he can spend more time with you guys. You guys take the cutest pictures.
I love looking at all your photos from your travels!! What a tease!! I miss Hawaii! We stayed at the Ritz in Maui for our honeymoon and I could not get enough of the mango tropical butter every morning with my waffles! haha. E has grown so much and is a handsome lil fella!! super duper cute!! I never knew you could get nanny service from the hotel, but that is good to know - esp if you want to go on a nice date night!! As for whole milk- I used to get Organic Valley Shelf Stable Whole milk for A when we used to travel outside the US- but I think it only comes in the big box..not the single serving box. It was such a pain in the butt to lug it in a suitcase.. hehe..
wow! i love your pics! in a few of the first pics, he looked like andy!
Somehow you always find the way to portray the most perfect and desired family anyone would want! You inspire me!! =)
hello! you have a beautiful family! : ) i have a question for you, i saw in a previous post you had gates up to baby proof your house, what type are they? and how did you arrange them? our daughter is 8 months now and is getting into everything! she especially loves to touch the tv and everything around it. thanks in advance!
great photos, jenny! you make travelling with a toddler look so graceful. i’m glad your family got to spend some quality time together. i always travel with my phil and teds hook on chair. you never know if the restaurant’s high chairs are clean, have broken seat belts, etc. the hook on chair is portable enough to slip under your stroller or in a diaper bag. and it has a shoulder harness belt so my kids can’t escape.
what is your facebook name? mine is jeanne han whang. see you on fb!
Hi! I’ve seen your xanga a couple times but never commented…but I love your letters to Evan…that’s probably the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen
Can’t wait for more entries!
i love all the details from your baby’s 1st birthday! you did an awesome job
!!
Wowee! Yes! It looks like it was a lot of fun and … Evan is walking???!!!! When did that happen? He looks like a boy now instead of a baby. All growing up too fast! Anyway, it was good to see how you’re doing. Hopefully, your mom is back this week to help you out. BTW, my nanny is leaving for a full time job! Yikes! Did yours end up staying with you? I remember that she was kinda going back and forth about leaving/staying. Anyway, I think I found one, but we’ll see how it turns out…
@trueClassic - Hello my love! You are such a pro at traveling! You are so right about booking the earliest flight. I wish I had asked you about that before our Maui trip~~ because the flight home was a later flight and by the time we were on the plane Evan was tired and grumpy. This time I’m taking your advice~ that’s why we booked the earliest flights for Orlando. I’m sooo excited about our trip!! =)
@aliceandrandy - Aww~ you’re so cute you remembered last year’s Maui post! We happened to go so soon after our last trip because of a wedding but I would love to make Maui a yearly tradition! =)
@sooshipoo - How exciting about your BIG move! Did you guys already move? If you haven’t done the big flight yet I’m sure you’ll do fine! One of Evan’s first flights was back and forth from Maui when he was 3-4 months~ just like Warren! That flight was so much easier than this time. Back then we just made sure he was well fed~ couldn’t do snacks yet but made sure we had plenty of milk available (i.e., me & a bottle). We also used a bottle or I breastfed during takeoff and landing to help with the ear popping thing. We also usually never let him watch TV but luckily that time Wall-E was playing so he was mesmerized. Try to take a few new toys to keep him distracted! If all else fails make put him in your baby carrier or just hold him and walk up & down the aisles. You can also hide out near the bathrooms, hehe. Can’t wait to hear about your journey and how you love settling back in CA! =)
@spiritedsherry - Hi buddy! The flowy dress from the wedding was actually a random find. It was at a Japanese boutique next door to my regular boba place. The best part was that it was only like $25! I remember how you once found a gorgeous super nice dress at a thrift/vintage shop. I love awesome finds like that.
@HSookiC - I’m so excited for your trip!! It’s already almost May! Did you decide yet if you’ll be coming in May or July? I want to make sure we plan something way in advance so we can meet for sure. =)
@skippeeahn - I would’ve never guessed it was such a bargain. You look like a million bucks in it. What a fab find! I do *heart* thrift stores… they’re such an eco-friendly way to add to your closet too.
Hi!
I didn’t know you were friends with some of the other LA KAMs… I was going to come but had to back out at the last minute. I’ll make sure you’re invited for lunch when I do come out there!
Nice to “meet” you. I’m friends with alot of the KAMs on FB, you should be able to find me…
Totally jealous of your Maui trip… Glad you enjoyed it
O by the way there’s an eye shadow by Urban Decay called “Maui Wowie”… http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2136802&productId=prod2136802&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat940003%20cat1090001
@TheSongStory - Hi buddy! That’s so awesome you guys are going to go on a lovey dovey trip. =) We had lots of fun with Evan but we’re definitely going to plan a trip without him too, hehe. We didn’t go to Missouri yet~ last time our Andy’s family met up in Vegas. We’re trying to plan a Missouri trip soon though. You haven’t updated your Xanga in ages but I’m so glad I get to keep up with Lauren on FB now! Yay! =)
@eikmommy - Hi~! Thanks so much for the encouragement! You are soo sweet. =)
@injeannieous - Yeah~ I remember how you were debating about whether to take him or not. We were too! I think either way would’ve been fine. Parents need a break sometimes too~~ so we’re definitely planning a trip for just us too, hehe. Wow~ that’s so nice your sister got married at the Ritz. Everything there is so awesome! =)
@ChibiPenguinGrl - Hi sweetie! You haven’t been on Xanga in forever, hehe! I’m glad you’re on FB though so we can catch up! =) I’ll definitely add you. Hope you’ve been doing well~~!
@lovelyingenue - LOL~ your walking in the wind story is so funny! You should totally do those similar outfit photos of C too! The Maui outfit was actually the same one~ I was surprised it still fit but it was really tight, hehe.
@babymomof2 - Hi hi! You are just one of the sweetest people I know. Thank you for your beautiful words! I use a bunch of different cameras because I’m obsessed with photography, hehe. My main cameras are the Panasonic Lumix LX3 (point & shoot) and the Canon 5D Mark II (DSLR). Lol~ yeah, Evan was sitting in first class. I never even got to sit in first class until I was all grown up…Evan is a lucky little fellow, hehe.
@Expecting_Junior - Hi there! I’m so sorry for the late reply~ I was really sick and wasn’t able to be on a computer. I hope it isn’t too late to answer your question! The baby gates we have are so awesome and we love them! Here’s the LINK. We actually have 3 sets! The thing I love about it is that they don’t look like the typical baby gates (some look like dog fences) and they’re so easy to move around and rearrange. It’s so convenient to be able to add or take off different walls/corners to make it fit exactly the way we need it to. I read somewhere that changing things around at home sometimes is actually great for kids because it helps them not get bored and they experience new things. Oh, another great thing is that it has a door (it’s usually locked) so unlike some of the other gates you can just open that for the baby to go in and out. It’s also nice because there are toys on it so the baby doesn’t feel like they’re in a cage, hehe. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
@jeanxbeanx - Thanks for the tip on the Phil and Ted’s hook on chair! There were times we’ve been to restaurants with absolutely no high chair whatsoever. A lot of times the sushi restaurants don’t have them and those are my favorite. I will definitely find you on FB~ yay! =)
@siLL33gUrL - Thanks so much for your comment! I write stuff to Evan all the time but I don’t post them because I didn’t think anyone would care to read them, hehe. Your comment made me smile and want to keep up my Xanga~ thanks for the encouragement! =)
@wedders111 - Yeah~ Evan is walking (running!) now and I’m so exhausted! He started just after his 1st birthday. The nanny leaving for a full-time job story seems to be a common one. I really hope the one you found is one you end up loving. YES~ thank goodness we still have the same one. She ended up leaving but then coming back because she said she missed us. I’m so afraid she’s going to leave for a full-time job though!
@korean_angel214 - Aww~ too bad your LA trip didn’t work out! Yes~ I’ll definitely join you girls for lunch when you do get to visit. That’s so funny there’s an eye shadow called Maui Wowee…I feel like getting it so I can dream of Maui, hehe. =)
love your photos! your trip to maui looked so nice! I’m dying f or a vacation myself.
you guys make such a cute family!
i came back because i wanted to see your maui pictures and dream about going…and see your beautiful family pictures. sigh…i wish i was in maui….hahaha let’s plan on going to maui wowie. evan was so litto….
Love this post! We’re heading to Maui this December so it’s great to see someone’s trip with their little one!! I hadn’t thought of the box milk, but great suggestion!
