  • Introducing…Joy!

Hi everyone!  Joy is here!  She was born on August 30, 2011.

It seems like it wasn’t even that long ago that Evan was born and now we have another little one!

    Labor & Delivery

Everyone said labor would be really fast with the second one so I was surprised this labor was almost as long as it was the first time around!  Thank goodness for Andy and my buddies (via text/email/FB) who kept me company through a very long night and day.

    Hospital Days

Our first visitors to the hospital were Miny & Steve. I’ll never forget how Miny brought me sushi~ my first time eating it in a year!  I’ll never forget how Steve asked his friend for a photography lesson just so he could take good photos of Joy.  Most of all, I’ll never forget how much they loved and adored Joy from the first moment they met her.

The hospital stay was short but it was nice having time to ourselves getting to know our newest love.

It might be too early to tell but it looks like Joy could be a girl version of Evan~ lol!

We missed Evan so much but he was always close by~ we had photos of him everywhere!

    First Visits

My sister-in-law gave us the biggest surprise ever.  Sandy happened to be on a business trip to California when Joy was born.  We were beyond thrilled that Sandy & Marvin were able to meet Joy.  I already know they’re going to be such awesome parents.  They’re so good with both Evan & Joy!  Evan loves them so so so much.

I don’t know what we’d do without my mother-in-law and father-in-law.  They’ve been helping us so much!

My parents have been trying to fill in when they can!  Gina & Albert came to shower Evan with lots of love and meet Joy.  We’re so blessed to have such amazing family & friends!

    First Family Photo

Thanks to the incredibly talented Sako~ we have our first family photo.  You have to check out her work~ Sky Blue Seed!  She’s so wonderful to work with and I can’t wait to share more photos with you soon.

    iPhone Love

Here’s a glimpse of the first few days of JOY.  Evan is so gentle and loving with Joy but the transition has been tough on him.  He’s acting up in other ways.  Maybe it’s just typical 2.5-year-old behavior though?  I don’t know!  It’s so heartbreaking and stressful.  Mamas of two…can you offer any advice?

Hope you’ve all been doing great!  I miss being part of the Internet world but we’re in survival mode right now…trying to get bits of sleep here & there and figuring out how to be a family of four.  Hopefully I’ll be back soon with more updates!

  • Yay to an update! Love all the pictures. How can you still look so fabulous in the hospital (speaking specifically of photo of you and bunny) and the rest of the post delivery photos. :)

Oh man, I miss sushi so bad too! Your friends are so sweet and thoughtful, what with the delivery of the food and the photo session. :)

Love all your photo updates, can’t wait to hear more. Get your rest darling!

  • woohoo i’ve been waiting for this post :) congrats you look great and joy is sooo precious, she totally looks like a girl version of evan!!! which is great because evan is the cutest baby/boy ever!!! beautiful family

  • Jenny you make giving birth look like such a breeze!  You look better after labor than most people do on a good day.  Must be from all the JOY in your life!  She’s gorgeous like her mama. =) So glad to see how blessed you are.  It must be tough adjusting to having two but no doubt you’ll adjust super quick cause you’re such a super mom!  I’m sure it’s just a combination of things going on with Evan making him act out.  I wish I could give you advice but both mine act out all the time and I still haven’t figured it out!

  • yay you’re finally online and i’m thrilled to see a post by you!! how in the world did you even have time to update?!! you are already in supermom mode. :) i just can’t say it enough…. precious precious!!! both evan and joy~! she looks soooo much like big bro! i can hardly wait to see lil joy blossom into a beautiful lil lady. so adorable!! evan will get through this transition phase soon and he’ll be the best big bro and helper!

  • Yay!!  CONGRATULATIONS :)   She’s lovely!  Glad to see everything went very well.  <3

  • Congrats on Joy. She’s beautiful and such a suitable name! Many blessings to you and your family. :D

  • congrats! you have a beautiful family!

  • Congratulations! She is adorable <3 ( & her birthday is a day after mine!) Can’t wait for more pictures, your family is too cute~

  • As everyone already mentioned: Did you get a makeover before going to the hospital? How can you look SOOO good??? You put me to shame… but that’s ok… next baby imma go get my hair, and make up done in the first signs of contractions!!! HAHAHA

Oh, and a good advice someone gave me before when i became a mama of 2. When Evan asks for you, or needs your assistance at the SAME time as Joy… listen to Evan first. He’s the older one, so he will remember being “left out”. The baby will be ok (unless she’s in danger or something, ya know). She can cry a little, it won’t hurt her. Evan will understand that he is still your first priority. And little by little, he will learn to “share” mommy with his baby sister.

  • i was gonna say that joy looked so similar to evan when i saw the pics that miny posted on fb, but i kept the comment to myself! haha. didn’t wanna say something based on a few pics. but she definitely does look like a female version of evan! HAHA. andy must be so thrilled to have TWO mini hims. lol. hopefully joy’ll look more like her gorgeous mama as she gets older. :) seeing these pictures and reading your post brought tears to my eyes! you have such a beautiful family. i can’t even imagine how tough it must be with two.. i struggle with one! really happy to hear that you have such a great support system.
wish i was in ca so i could shower you guys with love, food and help too! :( take care of yourself, don’t lift anything heavy, and eat well!
    love you guys!

  • @KhrystalSun - great advice Khrystal!

  • I love the pictures!!! WELCOME JOY! We are so happy to see your beautiful little face.  Evan is going to be a wonderful big brother.  I think Joy looks a lot like both of her grandparents actually.  I’m glad you have family close by helping you out.  Let me know if you need anything.  Please share more pictures when you can. Sending you lots of love! Hugs and Kisses to Everyone!

  • awwwww so precious! CONGRATS!!!

  • Congrats your baby is cute!

  • congratulations!  joy is beautiful and your family looks beautifully full!  the best advice i can give you is to give Evan as much attention and “special time” as you can.  Right now, Joy will be happiest when she is eating or in her crib.  Sleep train her early and you’ll see that she’ll be more independent and content as she grows.  Even to this day, my first was the neediest (and still is at times).  Joshy is independent and Kaylee is the toughest, most independent of all!

  • omg congrats!  Joy looks beautiful and you look amazing.  I hope the entire family is doing well and you are getting plenty of rest!

  • Joy is sooo precious!  it’s a huge transition for evan and it’s no surprise he may be acting up.  My advice is to just be patient and understanding even though it may be tough to do so~ and keep him involved in the process of taking care of joy~  he won’t want to feel missed out!  good luck & i’m so happy for you!

  • congratulations!  You look AMAZING for just having a baby!  and she looks so incredibly precious.

  • awww…love love the post!!  we couldn’t stop thinking of joy during our trip.  steve was saying if it weren’t for ugly hospital lighting and his amateur photography skills, you would’ve looked even more beautiful (if that’s even possible!) in our pics =P  love all the photos, especially of  grandpa ahn and joy!  we can’t wait for our next trip to see you guys…please tell evan we miss him!

  • Congrats again Jenny! She is beautiful I love the ones with your family.

  • congratulations Jenny!!  She’s a beauty, and I think that she totally resembles Evan too!  One of the things that I went out of my way with after I had Emmy, was that everytime Emmy was napping, I would give Tessa my undivided attention, read to her, hold her, spend time with her even with a sink full of bottles and dishes, and toys everywhere.  When Emmy woke up, except when I was nursing Emmy, I would be holding Emmy, and still be playing with Tessa and doing stuff with her as much as possible.  it’s really tiring for mom because you’re working double duty and can’t get naps, but I felt that it definitely eased the transition for Tessa.

  • Congrats!  Joy is beautiful little girl!  Glad to hear such wonderful news …a good way to end my hectic Monday!

  • Congrats! Welcome, cutie Joy!

  • Welcome, Joy!!!  You are so loved already!!!  Gosh, she really does look like a mini-Evan!  That must mean she’s going to be SUPER cute like her oppa! =)   I’ll pray that Evan and all of you will adjust quickly to life as 4~  Evan’s going to be an awesome oppa…I just know it!   And you look beautiful, my dear….as always!   Let me know if you need anything! =)

  • Congratulations!!! Joy is beautiful. The first 2 months were brutal for me and I had full time help. Sleep deprivation is a killer. Good luck to you!

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!  Seriously, how can you find time to post??  She looks beautiful, and best of luck with the transition period.

  • Jenny, congratulations again~! You are such a beautiful mom, inside and out.

  • Awwwww yay!!! Glad to see you’re back in the internet world sis!! Joy is such a precious little baby and I am SOOO glad I got to meet her in her first days, it’s something we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives~! And even little cousin Austin got to see a glimpse of her!! ;) It was SOOO great to hang out with Evan too and take him to the Ocean where he got ALLL WET!! :D

  • wow congratulations!  and you totally look like you’re back to looking like your normal self already!

i’ve never seen those hospital hats with a bow on it… super cute!

i have no advice about being a mom of two but i am looking forward to reading your adventures.  i can imagine it must be difficult on evan now, but i bet they will be best buds in the long run.

  • hi joy!  jenny, you look amazing!  have fun with the new love and i hope you have a quick recovery time!

  • Oh Jenny. I’m just over the moon thrilled for you! I’d been stalking Sandy on Twitter and when she announced she was going to get to see her new niece? I cheered!!!

What a doll. And yes; I believe she is the girly version of Evan.

It’s a passing phase with Evan and pretty typical. Try not to sweat it too much. It’ll sort itself out.

    Love You Jenny & Congratulations,

    Debra

  • Congratulations!  Evan is going to make a wonderful big brother!

  • Jenny!!! HUGS!!!!!  I’ve already commented on FB, but she’s really a beautiful little one.  Yay to a perfect family. :)

no advice on how to deal with two.  i’m hoping that YOU’LL be able to empart your knowledge onto me. ;)   can’t wait to hear more about your adventures.

  • Congrats!  She’s beautiful.  You look AWESOME in your hospital pics, lucky lady!!

  • ahhhh!!!! congrats!!! omg, she is beautiful!!! how are you feeling?? i’m glad to see everything is well. aww evan is so cute in all of the pictures! and i LOVE the family photo. nathan had a tough time with lil evan around too. he was acting up, whining, throwing fits, doing things out of spite to get our attention. it really broke my heart. and there wasn’t much i could do cuz my recovery was really bad & PAINFUL. it took me almost a month to fully recover. but he’s much better now. he loves his lil bby brother and evan loves his big brother. it took some time but it’s better and i know evan will grow to love his new bby sis in no time. it’s def hard & heart breaking but just give it some time and patience. FIGHTING!! keep us updated :)

  • Joy, Joy, Joy!!  Congrates!  She is a beautiful baby!  It sounds like E is adjusting well.  It is normally for him to act up when a new baby arrives.  He is used to be the only one and now he has to share his mommy & daddy.  Just be patient with him.  Maybe try to crave out some Ethan only time with him every day, even if it is just a few minutes a day.  Don’t worry, you will get the hang of it very quickly.  You are a fantastic mom!!

  • Wow – congradulations – so precious

  • COngrats Jenny!! I hope you have a fast recovery! Joy does look like a girl version of Evan :) So perfect and complete. Again congrats and can’t wait to see updates on her growth :)

  • oh joy! can’t wait to meet you~ she is so tiny and cute!!! and i definitely see resemblance between the two!! hope evan is adjusting well and you are getting some sleep~ see you soon!

  • congratulations chien family and welcome little joy!

  • Hey, old xanga buddy!! *^^*  CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  Your updates are always such a fun read – and your (growing) family is beautiful!! (Um, as is your new home!!!!) Oh, and you forgot to mention that you gave birth via surrogate. Right??? RIGHT?? Bc there is no way you can look so good immediately following birth!!  Maybe you’re an alien. HAHA.. kidding. Omg, this is the longest comment ever. LOL..  Looking forward to more pics of Joy!!

  • omy goodness congrats on your beautiful Joy! I cant believe youre a mama of two now! Im so used to your family pic of Evan and the dog! You look great and hope to see more updates on your new chapter :)
